Agneepath is a 1990 Bollywood film directed by Mukul S. Anand. It stars Amitabh Bachchan, Mithun Chakraborty, Madhavi, and Rohini Hattangadi, with Danny Dengzongpa as the villain. It was produced by Yash Johar. The title was taken from a poem penned by Harivansh Rai Bachchan, Amitabh’s father, and which is recited by the main character throughout the film. Mukul Anand cited Scarface as his inspiration for the flm.
Bachchan and Chakraborty received the National Award for Best Actor and Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award respectively for their performances, and Hattangadi earned a Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award. The film failed commercially at the box-office, but as always, Bachchan’s performance was praised. Johar’s son, Karan, is claiming it is the reason for remaking the film in 2011 under the same name.
