Hiding a partition in Windows 7

Sometimes it is useful to hide a partition, if you want for example to prevent users see this partition and at the same time use this partition by the automatic backup of Windows 7.

In our example, we would like to hide the D partition:

On the menu start type edit the GPO, and then click Edit Group Policy.

(Or you can type gpedit.msc)

In user configuration

Click Administrative Templates

Click Windows components

Click on Windows Explorer

A double right click: hide these specified drives in my computer,

Select enabled

Under options, open the menu restrict all drives and select your drive letter.

Example, if it is D, select restrict drive D only

Click the OK button to validate

The feature is enabled

Click the menu file, and then exit

In this case the D partition: hidden

But backup remains functional
If you click on save the computer control panel

You can select the D partition:

If you want to make the D partition: visible
Select off for the function in my computer, hide these specified drives

The D partition: is visible again
