In the opening match of World Cup 2011, team India has comprehensively defeated Bangladesh by 87 runs. Losing the toss, Indians were put on to bat with Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar opening the innings.
The duo got on to a good start but pretty soon Tendulkar (28) was run out owing to a severe misunderstanding. Gautam Gambhir (39) next partnered Sehwag before getting bowled out to Mahmudullah.

And then it was the huge 200-plus partnership between Virat Kohli and Sehwag that steered India’s ship well past 300. Sehwag was at his menacing best hitting a 140 ball 175 which included 14 fours and 5 towering sixes. He was complemented by Kohli who struck an 83-ball century.
Sehwag was fierce, in particular, and was also looking for a milestone of a double century. However, he was bowled out in the 48th over for a score of 175, his personal best.
Chasing a target of 371, Bangladesh got off to a brilliant start with the openers Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes adding a fiery 56 run partnership. But despite most batsmen getting starts, none could go on to make a big one. Iqbal (70) and Shakib Al Hasan (55) did the bulk scoring before getting out. They reached 283/9 in their full quota of 50 overs.
Munaf Patel was the pick of the bowlers grabbing 4 wickets while Zaheer Khan took 2 wickets. Overall, Dhoni’s boys registered a comprehensive win over the Bangla tigers.
