Tamil Maiyam is a registered Indian non-profit organization started in July 2002.
The main objectives of the Maiyam are:
- To promote Tamil Art, Literature and Culture with special thrust on Research, Creative Productions and Publications
- To bring the fruits of modern science to the ordinary Tamil
- To create a platform for Tamil people across the world to interact, relate, learn and work together for the betterment of Tamil as a language and the Tamil society
Tamil Maiyam is also committed to bring urban facilities to rural areas. Donations to Tamil Maiyam are exempted under Section 80G of the Indian Income Tax Act.
Some recent activities initiated by Tamil Maiyam:
- Tamil Maiyam along with The Shriram Social Welfare Trust jointly announced the launch of ‘Give Life’- a corporate social responsibility initiative targeting corporates with a strong CSR philosophy. Give Life will streamline projects aimed at long-term social change. The first CSR Portfolio to be managed by Give Life is that of TVH – True Value Homes – a Chennai-based construction company. Every year, 1,000 poor children will benefit under Give Life-TVH initiative.
- Chennai Sangamam- an event organized jointly with Department of Tourism and Culture to promote rural arts in which seven hundred Tamil Folk artists performed. From Tappattam and Tudumbattam to Jimbla Melam and Maankombu Attam the city danced to the rarest musical beats.
- Rs.40 Lakhs was given as Grant to 21 NGO members (13 of them are from CIOSA – Confederation of Indian Organizations for Service and Advocacy), to support their work with street children and physically challenged children. This was the surplus donation received during the Chennai Sangamam fest.
