Telangana bandh on February 22nd and February 23rd | Hyderabad news
As the Union government has made it clear that a Telangana bill will not be placed in the upcoming budget session of Parliament, the Telangana Joint Action Committee has given a two-day Telangana bandh call today.
TJAC convener professor M Kodandaram told Express that on February 22 and 23 there would be a bandh in all 10 Telangana districts. “Since there has been no response from the government, we have decided to intensify the agitation,” Kodandaram said.
The bandh call, however, had got nothing to do with the suspension of six MLAs of the Telangana region from the Assembly, following an unruly scene on the House premises a couple of days ago, he said.
Some TJAC members, including Kodandaram, were taken into custody when they were staging a rasta roko at the RTC crossroads today.
Meanwhile, the situation in the city on Saturday, after the sudden outburst of violence in and around the Osmania University campus on Friday night, was peaceful. Though some student wings had planned to continue their agitation, they put off their plans following the sudden death of state BJP women’s wing leader Jhansi.
