India International 31st Trade Fair 2010 Held in Delhi-NEW DELHI: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma announced on Sunday that a world-class exhibition and convention facility will be developed at Pragati Maidan for the India International Trade Fair.
Inaugurating the 30 {+t} {+h} edition of India International Trade Fair, the Minister said: “Hopefully before this year is out, things should roll out and definitely during the tenure of this government itself, Delhi will have world-class facilities. But we also need to step out and participate like we did in Shanghai.”
Pointing out that the IITF was commencing on the birth anniversary of country’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, Mr. Sharma said the date was chosen earlier as an acknowledgement of his immense contribution as a front rank leader. “It was under Pandit Nehru’s policy that Indian Institute of Technology and Indian Institute of Managements and big public sector undertakings were set up. The rapid stride that the country is making in various fields owes a lot to Pandit Nehru’s contribution. Fifty-four years ago a small step was taken by the then Prime Minister to host an exhibition.”
Department of Commerce Secretary Rahul Khullar, who presided over the inauguration, said the IITF will showcase the best the world has to offer and what India has to offer to the rest of the world.
“We are looking at not just business generation but also other aspects. We need to upgrade Pragati Maidan to international standards. Hopefully, in the 31 {+s} {+t} edition of IITF the exhibition ground will have world-class infrastructure.” Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said he was happy that his first public function in Delhi as the new incumbent was inauguration of IITF that targets industrial growth and job creation.
