On Monday night, the WWE Raw Results for 01/31/11 had pro wrestling fans from Roanoke, Virginia and around the world watching the latest episode on USA.  Fans tuned in for the aftermath of the Royal Rumble and the buildup to the next Pay-Per-View, the Elimination Chamber event, which will have some interesting matches in place.

According to PWInsider.com, the latest installment of WWE Raw featured 2011 Royal Rumble winner Alberto Del Rio celebrating his victory and making his big decision to face Edge at Wrestlemania 27 for the World Heavyweight Title.  This came after The Miz arrived to the ring to tell Alberto that Edge has constantly been talking smack about him behind his back.  The segment ended with Edge punching Del Rio, but Alberto Del Rio got the last laugh as he smashed a mariachi band member’s guitar on the Rated-R Superstar.  WWE.com appropriately called it “Guitar Hero.”

Later in the night, John Cena foiled The Miz’s chance at a win against Edge in a Champion vs Champion match.  It was declared there had to be a winner, and that was Edge after he delivered a Spear on Miz.  Cena was up in the stands with a mic in his hand to lead the crowd in taunts like “Miz is awful.”  The distraction definitely aided Edge’s victory.  In another segment, Randy Orton delivered a big punt kick on Nexus member Husky Harris despite leader CM Punk warning Orton not to do it.  Orton escaped into the crowd and they would lock up again later in the evening.

Also on the latest WWE Raw, Team LayCool got a pinfall win against the team of Natalya and new Divas Champion, Eve Torres.  Daniel Bryan defeated Tyson Kidd by submission, but the Bella Twins got in the ring to start another catfight with Daniel’s girlfriend, Gail Kim.  There was also the typical goofy segment to entertain the crowd as the anonymous GM made the team of Mark Henry and Great Khali compete in a “dance-off” against The Usos.  It ended in a brawl with Khali trying to pin one of The Usos even though it wasn’t a match.

The main event of the night was a special 7-man “Raw Rumble match.”  Every 90 seconds a new competitor would enter after two started in the ring.  It featured Sheamus, Randy Orton, CM Punk, R-Truth, John Morrison, Jerry Lawler and John Cena.  Morrison had some amazing spots where he did various stunts to avoid touching the ground with his feet.  The match finished with Sheamus bumping Lawler into Cena, causing Cena to fly off the apron.  Sheamus charged at Lawler, but Cena managed to pull the ropes down, causing Sheamus to fall out.  Jerry Lawler gets the win, and the win actually earns him a WWE Championship match against The Miz at the 2011 Elimination Chamber PPV!

The upcoming Pay-Per-View will also have an Elimination Chamber match featuring other competitors from Raw, with the winner becoming the #1 contender for the WWE Championship at Wrestlemania.  The other six wrestlers in tonight’s Rumble match on Raw will be a part of that attraction.  Early predictions would have to favor someone like John Cena winning the match and going on to face The Miz at Wrestlemania 27.  Most fans wouldn’t mind a John Morrison vs The Miz championship rematch for Mania, but it’s unknown if that would attract enough viewers.

So what did local WWE fans think of the latest Raw show?  Roanoke native Sharon Stokes commented on the latest episode of Raw saying “I would have to say that my favorite part of tonight’s show would be that Jerry finally gets his chance at gold. I would have to say my least favorite part was anything Michael Cole said. The show was overall pretty good I would have to give it a 7 (out of 10).”

John Conners of Roanoke also weighed in on the latest feuds going on for WWE Raw saying he likes “Orton vs CM Punk (Nexus) because it’s new and never been done.”  When asked about the 2011 Elimination Chamber Championship match between Jerry Lawler and The Miz, John said it’s a “bad idea because Michael Cole might get the motive to interfere and no one wants that.”

The Road to Wrestlemania 27 will continue as wrestlers head towards the Elimination Chamber Pay-Per-View.  WWE fans can catch the WWE Raw television show each Monday at 9PM EST on USA.  Roanoke pro wrestling fans can catch the show on channel 28 for Cox Cable TV, channel 105 on DISH, or channel 242 for DirectTV.
