The story is about Abhay Gulati (Imran Khan) and Aaliya Khan (Deepika Padukone), who are childhood friends. Both fell in love in their teenage years and this is when Abhay realizes that Aaliya is ‘the one’ for him. Aaliya is an ambitious girls who wants to become an actress. While Abhay still does not know what to do with life and ends up in helping Aaliya to chase her dreams.
As time passes certain differences build up in their relationship due to their different personalities. A point comes when Abhay fears that he would lose Aaliya, when Aaliya decides to go to Australia to study. This is when Abhay and Aaliya decide to put their relationship to test.
Abhay and Aaliya go through a lot of disappointments, commit mistakes, and even at a point lose each other and carry on with their lives as individuals. Break Ke Baad narrates how couples grow together with age. In this world where relationships break due to silly reasons, Abhay and Aaliya manage to survive despite their differences.
