GOVERNMENT OF INDIA INDIA METEOROLOGICAL DEPARTMENT REGIONAL METEOROLOGICAL CENTRE, 6, COLLEGE ROAD, CHENNAI – 600 006. REGIONAL DAILY WEATHER REPORT FOR TAMIL NADU, PUDUCHERRY, ANDHRA PRADESH, KARNATAKA, KERALA AND LAKSHADWEEP SUNDAY, 5TH DECEMBER  2010  /  14TH AGRAHAYANA 1932 (SAKA)

SUMMARY OF OBSERVATIONS RECORDED AT 0830 HRS IST:-

Yesterday’s  low pressure area over  Southwest Bay off Srilanka coast persists.

Rainfall occurred at many places over Coastal Tamil Nadu and isolated rainfall occurred over Interior Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Mainly dry weather prevailed over Rayalaseema and Lakshadweep. Dry weather prevailed over Karnataka and  Telangana.

The chief amounts of rainfall recorded in Centimetres are:

Kanyakumari 5, Puducherry Airport, Nagapattinam, Vedaranyam and Mylaudy (Kanyakumari dt) 4 each, Cheyyur , Maduranthagam and Mahabalipuram (all Kancheepuram dt), Cuddalore, Parangipettai, Panruti and Vanur  (both Cuddalore dt), Orathanadu (Thanjavur dt), Thiruthuraipoondi (Tiruvarur dt), Kollidam and Sirkali (both Nagapattinam dt) 3 each, Tambaram , Chidambaram and Kattumannarkoil (both Cuddalore dt), Marakkanam  (Villupuram dt), Kumbakonam (Thanjavur dt), Kodavasal, Muthupet, Nannilam, Needamangalam, Pandavaiyar Head and Valangaiman (all Tiruvarur dt), Mayiladuthurai and Tarangambadi (both Nagapattinam dt), Kolachal, Eraniel, Nagerkoil and Thuckalay (all Kanyakumari dt) 2 each and Thiruvananthapuram Airport, Thiruvananthapuram, Anna University and DGP Office (both Chennai dt), Chennai, Chennai Airport, Chengalpattu (Kancheepuram dt), Ponneri and Thamaraipakkam (both Tiruvallur  dt),  Sethiyathope and Virudhachalam (both Cuddalore dt), Tindivanam and Ulundurpet (both Villupuram dt), Villupuram, Karaikal, Madukkur, Papanasam, Peravurani and Thiruvidaimaruthur (all Thanjavur dt), Mannargudi (Tiruvarur dt), Tiruvarur  and Boothapandi  (Kanyakumari dt) 1 each.

The minimum temperature fell at a few places over Rayalaseema, North interior Karnataka, at one or two places over Coastal Karnataka, North  Kerala, rose appreciably at one or two places over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, rose at a few places over rest North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and changed little elsewhere over the rest of the region.

They were appreciably above normal at many places over Telangana, at a few places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, above normal at a few places over rest Coastal Andhra Pradesh , at one or two places over Telangana, Rayalaseema, Kerala, below normal at one or two places over Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and were generally normal over the rest of the region.

Adilabad recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 13 deg Celsius in the plains of the region.

WEATHER FORECAST VALID UNTIL THE MORNING OF 07TH  DECEMBER  2010:

Rain or thundershowers would occur at many places over North Coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry , Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema and a few places over rest Tamil Nadu, South interior Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep and Telangana. Isolated rain or thundershowers may occur over Coastal and North Interior Karnataka.

HEAVY RAINFALL WARNING

Isolated heavy to very heavy rain would occur over Coastal Andhra Pradesh during next 48 hours. Isolated heavy rain would also occur over North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Rayalaseema during the same period.

FORECAST FOR CHENNAI CITY AND NEIGHBOURHOOD

For next 24 hours: The sky conditions would be generally cloudy. Few spells of rain or thundershowers would occur . Surface winds will be strong and gusty at times. Minimum temperature would be around 24 degree Celsius.

FARMERS WEATHER BULLETIN FORECAST VALID UNTIL THE MORNING OF 07TH  DECEMBER  2010:

Moderate to rather heavy rain would occur at many places over Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Pudukottai districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and light to moderate rain would also occur at a few places over remaining districts of Tamil Nadu.

Heavy rainfall warning:

Isolated heavy rain would occur over North Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during next 48 hours.

OUTLOOK FOR SUBSEQUENT TWO DAYS: Gradual decrease in Rainfall.
