Georgina Bloomberg Hurt in Horse Accident | Michael Bloomberg Daughter
The youngest daughter of Mayor Michael Bloomberg was seriously injured when she fell off a horse during an equestrian competition in upstate New York Friday, officials said on Sunday.
Georgina Bloomberg, a professional show jumper, took a “severe fall” while riding at the Syracuse Invitational Sporthorse Tournament. She was unconscious after the fall and suffered a concussion, and was later diagnosed with a fracture to her spine, a spokesman for the competition said.
Kenneth Kraus said a complete medical report on Ms. Bloomberg will follow an in-depth examination scheduled for Monday. “Despite the injury, she is resting comfortably,” Mr. Kraus said in a statement.
“The Mayor is very concerned, as any father would be,” Stu Loeser, a spokesman for Mr. Bloomberg, said. Mr. Bloomberg on Sunday was at the New York City Marathon, where he and Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly held the tape as the winners crossed the finish line.
Ms. Bloomberg, 27, was riding in a witch costume during the Gamblers Choice in Costume competition when “her saddle unexpectedly came loose and slipped,” throwing her to the turf during a jump, Mr. Kraus said. She regained consciousness shortly after the tumble and was able to walk off under her own power.
Ms. Bloomberg has had a rocky relationship with the mayor for years. She participated in a 2003 documentary film titled “Born Rich,” in which she made frank comments that were perceived as unflattering to Mr. Bloomberg.
She is the second daughter of Mr. Bloomberg with his ex-wife Susan Brown. Her sister, Emma, is 31 years old.
