Human Resource and Development (HRD) Minister Kapil Sibal has been given additional charge of the Telecom Ministry after Telecom Minister A Raja resigned on Sunday night over 2G spectrum scam.
The decision was taken amid DMK meet to choose the new member for the post. After the announcement, DMK has lost key portfolio in the UPA-II.
Political experts believe that decision is aimed to put away the consistent pressure from the DMK over the key portfolio.
It is believed that the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will make an announcement on Tuesday around 1.00 pm.
However, 2G spectrum impasse forced the adjournment of both the houses of Parliament till Tuesday.
BJP-led Opposition raised the issue of 2G spectrum row and demanded Joint Parliamentary Committee probe into the scam. Soon after the commencement of Monday’s proceedings Opposition members shouted slogans, forcing speaker to adjourned the both house till 12.00 noon.
