Skoda Yeti India has finally launched their first sports utility vehicle in the Indian market.

Skoda Yeti is priced between Rs 15.40 lakh and Rs 16.63 lakh.

Its entry into the market further bulges the alreadycrowded SUV market that is set to get even fatter when BMW launches its X1 SUV by year-end and Mahindra drives in its new global SUV, apart from new SUVs from its newly-acquired Korean company Ssangyong.

The demand for SUVs and crossovers has been picking up rapidly in the Indian market with the road infrastructure getting better and disposable incomes rising.

The market now spans across a wide price range, broadly starting from the Scorpio and Safari, which are priced under Rs 10 lakh, Skoda Yeti, Ford Endeavour and Toyota Fortuner that are in the Rs 15-20 lakh range and the Audi Q7, BMW X5 and Mercedes GL-Class that are priced around Rs 60 lakh.

Skoda said: “There could be a possibility that we will take Maruti’s input in the small car.”

Skoda is owned by Volkswagen who owns a stake in Suzuki which is the parent company of Maruti.

The company hinted that Suzuki wants to get their engine technology and they want to get access to their expertise in developing cheap small cars.
