Men’s Day or International Men’s Day (IMD) 2010 is celebrated on 19th of November every year. Men’s Day or International Men’s Day (IMD) inaugurated in 1999 in Trinidad and Tobago, the day and its events find support from a variety of individuals and groups in Australia, the Caribbean, North America, Asia, Europe, Africa, and the United Nations. On behalf of UNESCO, Ms Ingeborg Breines, Director of Women and Culture Of Peace said, “This is an excellent idea and would give some gender balance.” She added that UNESCO was looking forward to cooperating with IMD organizers.
At a time when evolution of women is taking place, position of men in the society cannot be ignored. The objectives of celebrating an International Men’s Day include focusing on men’s and boy’s health, improving gender relations, promoting gender equality, and highlighting positive male role models. It is an occasion to highlight discrimination against men and boys and to celebrate their achievements and contributions, in particular for their contributions to community, family, marriage, and child care.
International Men’s Day is celebrated in Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Australia, India, United States, Singapore, Malta, South Africa, Hungary, Ireland, Ghana, Canada, Denmark, France, and Grenada on November 19, and global support for the celebration is broad
International Men’s Day 2010 aims:
1.Men’s Health – Men work in much more pressure than women and are also subject to much more long and difficult working hours. Thus, it is need of the hour that more care is taken on men’s health. Men’s health include social, emotional, physical and spiritual.
2.Positive Male Role – With growing awareness of women issues, we also have to remember that not every man is bad and dangerous.
3.Positive Contribution – Men contribution to the society cannot be ignored. Be the tedious job of a architect or a managerial post, men play the role optimally.
4.Awareness of Discrimination Against Men – Women get their share of best treatment and facility which they should but at the same time this is leading to discrimination against men. Which needs to be controlled. This also included gender equality and good relation.
5.To Make World A Better Place – With due respect to their contribution it cannot be ignored that more men than women are involved into crimes. With the rising number of rape incidents, women don’t find it safe to travel to distant destinations. Thus, men should be more responsible and try to eliminate the disturbing element s from the society.
International Men’s Day, is observed in various parts of the world in their own way. There is no specific of celebration. Generally their are public seminars, classroom activities, surveys and marches.
